This unique household in north Carlton offers a peaceful and homely environment for Indigenous people who are in Melbourne to support a relative in hospital. Since its establishment in 2001, the Indigenous Hospitality House (IHH) has hosted nearly 700 guests from across Australia, referred by hospitals and communities.
A project of the Church of All Nations, the IHH and is overseen by Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress, and supported by Christians from various denominations, other groups, individuals and volunteers.
The IHH is seeking new residents to help with hosting Indigenous guests. The house has extra bathrooms, BIRs in all bedrooms and a little veggie garden. Rent is $80 per week, plus bills and food. We ask residents to volunteer one day and two evenings a week, preparing meals and hanging out with guests.
