In Australia we tend to talk only about mitigating rather than adapting to climate change, when we need to work hard at both. Since climate change is already occurring, mitigation can only be partially effective. Desmond Tutu warns against ‘adaptation apartheid’ in which the developing world is left behind.
A forthcoming forum on the topic “Adapting to Climate Change in the Developing World” will examine the impact climate change is having on people living in poverty. Speakers will be:
Rev. Tim Costello - CEO of World Vision Australia
Dr Stephen Howes - Manager, International Work Stream, Garnaut Climate Change Review
Prof. Paul James - Director, Globalism Research Centre
Date: Thursday 7 August
Time: 5:45pm for a 6pm start
Venue: State Library of Victoria
Village Roadshow Theatrette, Entry 3, La Trobe St, Melbourne
