Avril’s ordination this Sunday

Yarra Yarra Presbytery will this Sunday ordain our ‘inspiring‘ Dr Avril Hannah-Jones.

Avril was a long-time student of Melbourne University with a law degree and doctorate in Uniting Church history. She was a member at Church of All Nations when she began training for ordained ministry. She recently spent 5 months studying ecumenical spirituality with the World Council of Churches in Switzerland.

Avril is currently serving her internship in rural ministry to four congregations: Romsey, Riddells Creek, Mt Macedon and Lancefield.

Her service of ordination will be held at Church of All Nations on Sunday 5 October at 2:30pm.

John Evans’ induction, Sunday evening 20 January

CAN’s new minister, Rev. Dr John Evans, is to be inducted on Sunday 20 January at 7:30pm. The service, to be conducted by the Yarra Yarra Presbytery and held at Church of All Nations, will be followed by a community welcome at 8:30pm in which friends of CAN from within and beyond the church will gather to welcome John and his family to Carlton.

All are warmly invited to attend either or both celebrations, followed by refreshments.

. . . and Emily and Katie! The Church of All Nations looks forward to extending a warm welcome to the Evans family, due to arrive in Carlton in January.

Rev. Dr John Evans will be formally inducted as our new Minister of the Word on Sunday 20 January at 7:30pm. A community welcome will follow at 8:30pm, concluding with refreshments. All are invited to attend.

In the meantime, we wish the Evanses a safe journey eastwards and an easy transition to life in Carlton.

Farewell Barry & Jo

After a distinguished ministry, concluding at the Church of All Nations, it’s time for the Rev. Barry Prior to retire from our parish and, further, to be released from his formal ministry in the Uniting Church in Australia. In their time with us, his partner, Jo, has been a cherished member of the congregation and valued for her musical contribution to our worship.There are many in the congregation, in Carlton and throughout the Uniting Church who will miss Barry and Jo and wish them well. Please join us for a special farewell to Barry and Jo at 10am on Sunday 23 December. Representatives of Yarra Yarra Presbytery will attend to mark Barry’s retirement as Minister of the Word, while Melbourne icon Barry Dickins will deliver an oral tribute. Rev. Prior himself will preach.

A light lunch will be provided.

Avril recommended for ordination

The Yarra Valley Ministry Committee met with CAN’s Dr Avril Hannah-Jones on 9 October and found her ‘inspiring.’ The Committee was unanimous in recommending that she be ordained at the conclusion of her Intern Year. The Presbytery will make the final decision when it meets as a whole on 25 October.

She was a member at Church of All Nations when she began training for ordained ministry. She recently spent 5 months studying ecumenical spirituality with the World Council of Churches in Switzerland.

Avril is currently serving her internship in rural ministry to four congregations: Romsey, Riddells Creek, Mt Macedon and Lancefield. None of these may be big enough to host her ordination!
