Indigenous Hospitality House

Aboriginal flag, designed by Harold ThomasThis unique household offers a peaceful and homely environment for Indigenous people who are in Melbourne to support a relative in hospital. Since its establishment in North Carlton in 2001, the Indigenous Hospitality House (IHH) has hosted over 1,000 guests from across Australia, referred by hospitals and communities.

A project of the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress, the IHH is supported by the Church of All Nations and run by individuals and volunteers from various Christian denominations and other groups.

The IHH will need new residents from 2011 to help host Indigenous guests. The house has extra bathrooms, BIRs in all bedrooms and a little veggie garden. Rent is $80 per week, plus bills and food. We ask residents to volunteer one day and two evenings a week, preparing meals and hanging out with guests.
